Blackbutt Reserve is a hidden gem located just outside of Kotara. The north and west side overlooks Lookout Road, where you'll find picnic tables along with views into the lush trees that line this part of Black Butt tarnishing its notorious reputation as “the worst hiking spot” for those who are unfortunate enough not to know about it yet! During construction on an amenities building at Carnley Avenue Recreation Area last year--a 19th-century brick-lined mine shaft was discovered beneath our feet making more memories possible thanks to Joe Richley- president of Northern Parks & Playground Movement involvement
